Reclining Steamer Lounger/Deck Chair from a Ship's Deck

Dimensions: 70cm wide x approx length 146cm  Seat height 67cm.  Seat height 45cm x 57.5cm deep

This is a rustic yet and complete version of a chair used for reclining on the deck of a ship.  Not a deck chair as you and I know it, presumably it was used by higher class passengers !!  Usually the foot rest section has been lost with time, but this is complete and has a beautifully simple reclining mechanism.  This particular example is delicate and constructed with honesty.  The foot rest folds up with ease into the base to transform it into a standard chair.  By chance the book I am currently reading has the exact chair in a photograph of HMS Arabia en route to Bombay dated 1903.  The story behind this piece is attributed to a famous French Poet who 'reposed' lakeside on this particular style of chaise longue.
